Few weeks ago I scolded a high school student for making faces in my class. One day, I was so surprised when he came to me after class and told me in his awkward English “I’m sorry”, I smiled thoughtfully because it was so unexpected; at least he knows how to say sorry and I can see he is sincere about it. Ambivalent feelings engulfed me, I’m happy at the same time I felt indignant hearing this word SORRY!
Somebody hurts me so bad and worst of all left me hanging in the outer space without explanation and now I’m expecting sorry from him? Am I crazy? I don’t need his sorry it won’t change the past! But the word sorry has a power; it can heal you and me!!!
If we can’t have this magic word from someone who hurts us… well we can say sorry and start forgiving ourselves, because by doing so healing process will start. Remember forgiving is tantamount to healing. We need to forgive because forgiveness means letting go of the past. Yes, it won’t change the past but it does enlarge the future. Sometimes mere sorry alone can’t mend some relationships but it can dissolve anger and soothe a shattered pride and heal a broken heart. There is no love without forgiveness and there is no forgiveness without love. To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness. And now I know why God is The Great Lover of all, He has a great heart to forgive –that’s why He has unconditional love for us!
Don’t wait for people who hurt you to come and say sorry to you. Some people are not that strong and great enough to say sorry, to admit that they’re wrong; it’s a real man and real woman act! Maybe because some people thought that saying sorry is a weakling’s act but no they’re wrong… only great and superior people could say a heartfelt sorry, only great souls can forgive. Start forgiving yourself, grieve and move on… If you can’t forgive; if you can’t let go of the anger or grudge you will be the prisoner…forever. Do you think it’s fair? They hurt you and will make you their prisoner!!! If you feel the hurt and pain and can bear no more… let go and let God!
Sometimes we have to stop feeling like a victim, be responsible of your actions only then we can get rid of this ugly feeling called self-pity. Remember we’re not VICTIMS but VICTORS through God’s mercy. For me, in saying sorry it doesn’t matter who is right or who is wrong… we have to say sorry too if people offend us especially when we reacted badly with the offense.
Let me start it, sorry friends and loves ones especially for the unheeded words of warning and advices, for the love and care I responded lukewarmly. Sometimes, only in tears you can see rightly, seeing who loves and cares you the most. For the people I hurt “I’m Sorry!”
