Flowers of Love

I'm homesick. How I wish I'm home and busy preparing flowers, candles and food for All Soul's Day. I miss watching Magandang Gabi Bayan wherein horror stories are featured but in the middle of the program... blackout. I miss home eventhough there's brownout. =(

I read a book from a high school student wayback 1996. She was reading while I was explaining so I took her book and I read it after the class. I love this story. I can't remember the exact details but I'll try to tell the story in my own words.

There was a city girl and she had a boyfriend in the province. Before she went back to Manila to work she met her boyfriend in their rendezvous, an old cottage near the river. It's hard for her to break the news to her boyfriend but she had no heart to fool him. He's been so loving, faithful, honest and a good boyfriend to her all through the years. She broke up with the guy because she'd found a city man whom she thought would make her happy. She prepared to hear harsh words from her boyfriend but she heard none. With tears streaming on the boyfriend's face he uttered. "I will love you forever, and I will wait for you here. If someday you will change your mind remember I'm just here in the very place you've left me. I will accept you with open arms!"

So the girl went back to Manila. Days passed by so swiftly. Things were getting better, her new boyfriend's a good man. He has a stable job, financially stable, loving and he's an ideal man to marry. Weeks, months until a year passed by, everything was perfect but she felt something's missing in her life. She was unhappy.

She remembered her ex-boyfriend and she went back home. Night time came and she sneaked out the house and headed for the path towards the cottage where she used to meet her boyfriend. It's been a year and to her surprised a candle was lit inside the deserted cottage and she ran inside, her heart's pummeling in excitement. And she heard the familiar baritone voice. "You're back... you're back!" to her surprised she'd found her boyfriend exactly where she had left him. He ran quickly towards her and hugged her tight. Through the help of the moonlight, she could see tears of joy flowing from his gentle face.

"Do you know I've been waiting for you? I know you're coming back!" And the girl couldn't help but cry she'd never felt so lucky in her whole life, to have a man who loves her with all his heart. And the man excused himself to get something, she noticed how he moved so light and so fast. "I have something for you." the man announced with a big sweet smile on his face, he proffered flowers for the girl. The girl was so happy and said to herself, "this is what I'm missing in my life." She smelled the beautiful flowers and smiled back sweetly to the man and said thank you. They talked about their future and the boyfriend gazed sadly on the floor. The girl followed his gaze and she saw some dried stains on the floor. She hold his hand and said, don't worry I'm here now. I will never leave you again. I love you! How happy the girl was, she laughed, sang, danced, chatted with her loving boyfriend till twilight came. Before they parted the man said: "Remember, I will always love you till my last breath."

The next day, the sun was already high - it's noon time, when the girl woke up. She smiled happily upon remembering her boyfriend. She's so lucky and she's the happiest girl in the whole world. She wanted everyone to know about it. With happiness that enveloped her heart she joined her older sister for a brunch. She excitedly broke the news of reuniting with her boyfriend to her sister. She didn't care if her sister will get angry anymore as long she's happy. Her family never liked her boyfriend, they're against him especially her sister. But to her surprised her sister just laughed. She told her sister she met her boyfriend in the old cottage near the river but her sister didn't believe her.

Her sister laughed and said nonchalantly, "How could you meet your boyfriend he's been dead after you'd left. He took his own life and was found dead inside the old cottage."

She grew pale and speechless, her mind was racing. "Maybe that's the reason why he looked sad when we talked about our future and how he gazed sadly at the dried stain on the floor it's his own blood. Why he moved so swiftly and quickly as if he's floating on the air? She was surprised to find her boyfriend in the cottage. Why did he ever know I'm coming back? And he said he never left the cottage since she left. And she remembered something and ran hurriedly back to her room. There on the top of her table were the beautiful fresh flowers her boyfriend gave her the other night. How could it be true he's dead why I still have these flowers? And she remembered her boyfriend's parting words. "I will love you till my last breath."

How I love this story so sad... Hope you like it guys! If you ever find someone faithful and true never let him or her go.
